Shopping center according to VKVO

Hello!

I am working on a very big shopping center, which will not be build in Germany. It is about 60.000m2 and the biggest shoop is around 10.000m2.

I am asking, if it is possible to plan such buidling according to VKVO or not? Another problem is, that the whole center is below the ground (-6m). And on -9m is parking (below the shopping).

Are there any technical measures to divide the biggest fire compartment into two parts (below 5.000m2)?

From one shop about 500m2, we have to have two evacuation ways (with sprinkler). There are possibilities:

1. 25m in shop, 35m in mall, 35m in corridor to stairway

2. 25m in shop, 35m in corridor to stairway

3. 25m directly to the stairway

I am asking, if I understand correctly VKVO?

hi,

so, the centre isn´t built in Germany. Which country?

Aren´t there any special regulations in that country? Why do you want to use the M-VkVO? If there aren´t some regulations you may ask the authorities or maybe the Insurance Company.

Isn´t there any Authority (Supervisory authority / Board of works from the town) which has to approve the Building project? They can tell, I think.

The question is: where exactly are u planning the shopping mall? First why dont you plan the mall according to the local laws?

If there aren´t any local laws or regulations i would suggest the IBC.

In most of the english-speaking countries the International Building Code (IBC) is accepted.

Those pictures are realy nice to understand. But still than, I am not shure, if there is possible to have from one shop 1RW from shop to safe corridor for about 35m and then into the staricase. For thi corridor I think, that it is not permited to have it like normal ´notwendier flur´.

We build such big center in Slovenia.

In our country we can use almost all world guidelines. So we can choose IBC, NFPA, MBO, TRVB, VKF, etc...

According to local laws we can not plan this buidling, also according to VKVO is very hard to plan it (I think).

First I have to find solution at myself and then I go to the authority. So, I have to check, which guidelines are for me the best.

NFPA are good, there is only a problem, because it demands 2 or 3 hours fire resistance. Then you have UL (unlimited) fire compartments. That is good for me because of such big center. Problem with 2-3 hour is that, if you want to use prefabricated panels, you can get normaly (form normal price) 90 minutes. You can put a fire protection (Promat) on all the walls, but also this is wery expensive.

i´m not shure if the german VkVO is the solution of your problem. As I understood, the shopping center is below the ground, and below the center there is a parking center.

The VkVO only can be a kind of guideline, but in my opinion for your special building you have to create a risk analysis. You should especially involve the local fire departement, because buildungs on the second or third level below the ground have special risks for the fire fighting forces, for example according to the question of communication below the ground...
